New Students: Activate Access to Your UVa Email Account

[Nov 23, 2009 14:09] Web access to Microsoft Live@edu accounts now works.

Students admitted for Fall 2009:
Please wait 72 hours after making your admission deposit before starting this process.

Your Computing Accounts

The first thing you’ll need to do as a newly-accepted student (including undergraduate, graduate, professional, and Continuing Education students) is choose your UVa email provider (either UVa Gmail or UVa Microsoft Live@edu) and begin accessing your new UVa email account.

Later, other UVa computing accounts will also be automatically generated for you, which will allow you to:

  • Store your files online through your account on the Home Directory Service and/or through UVaCollab, plus access Web publishing through Home Directory Service; and
  • Log into public computers on Grounds through your Eservices account.

The Activation Process

There are 4 steps in the activation process, and you can complete them all online:

  1. Read through the Responsible Computing Handbook. You may want to watch the brief Responsible Computing Video, “When I go to UVa...” to familiarize yourself with the fundamentals.
  2. Complete the Responsible Computing Tutorial & Quiz with a score of 100%. (There are no trick questions.)
  3. Agree to abide by UVa’s computing policies.
  4. Choose your UVa email provider! More information about UVa Student Email.
