Choose your instructions for connecting to the UVa Exchange Service depending on which version of software you have on your iPhone/iPod touch:

Connect to Exchange Using ActiveSync

Note: If you're using an on-Grounds wireless network, you must first configure your iPhone or iPod touch to connect to the UVa network.

  1. Ensure you have an account on the UVa Exchange Service, then request that ActiveSync be enabled for this account. To do this:
    1. Go to the Eservices Management Website and login through NetBadge.
    2. Click Account Management, then Exchange tools.
    3. Click Activate Exchange for a Mobile Device or Smartphone.
    4. Click the Mobile Activation button.
    5. Wait to receive a confirmation email in response to your request before proceeding.
  2. Then, on your iPhone or iPod touch: From the Home screen, tap Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then tap Add Account.
  3. On the Add Account screen, tap Microsoft Exchange. The account configuration screen appears.
  4. In the Email: field, type your UVa Exchange Service email address, in the form:
your UVa computing ID@eservices.virginia.edu. For example: mst3k@eservices.virginia.edu
  5. In the User Name: field, type your UVa computing ID in the format domain\username (e.g., eservices\mst3k).
  6. In the Password: field, type your Eservices/UVa Exchange Service password.
    • Note: The password for your Exchange account is the same as your Eservices password. If you do not know this password, (re)set it now.
  7. In the Description: field, type a name to help you identify this account or leave the default text in place. Tap Next.
  8. In the Server: field, type mail.eservices.virginia.edu. Tap Next again.
  9. Turn on which content to sync: Mail, Contacts, and/or Calendars.
    • Note: If you choose to sync your calendar and contacts, all existing calendar and contact information on the device will be overwritten. Additionally, iTunes will no longer sync contacts and calendars with your computer.
  10. When you're finished, tap Save.
  11. The device immediately offers to sync with the Exchange server. You may be required to set a passcode.
    • Compliance with the Exchange ActiveSync policy is required. If the current passcode for your device does not meet policy requirements, the device will not sync with the server until the passcode is changed.

Note: To change sync settings later, go to Settings, then Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then Your Exchange Account, and select the options for syncing calendar, contacts, and mail.
