OMR Scanning (Bubble Sheets)
ITC has Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) scanning capabilities available in two location, Carruthers Hall and the Dynamics Building. Faculty, Teaching Assistants and staff may bring their standard UVA Answer Sheets (Blue Bubble Sheets) to the ITC Help Desk in the Dynamics Building (Room 116) or to Carruthers Hall Data Control Window.
At both the ITC-Dynamics and ITC-Carruthers Hall locations:
- There is a form to be completed when leaving bubble sheets for scanning. (The form is different at each location.)
- The bubble sheets will usually be scanned within 24 hours of drop-off.
- The scanned data can be sent back to you via electronic mail in a format acceptable to the Unix scoring and grading package. This file format is the same for both locations.
- The scanned bubble sheets must be retrieved within 10 days of when they were left for scanning or they are recycled.
Test scoring and standard item analysis of UVA standard bubble sheets is available at either location. If scoring is desired, the first bubble sheet must be the answer key and must have either the Social Security Number (SSN) or "Instructor or Test No." field bubbled with all zeros. All subsequent bubble sheets must have the same field as the answer key bubbled with unique numbers (either the SSN or Instructor/Test Number field).
If test scoring or item analysis is requested, the printout from this service is picked up from the same location where the scan sheets were left for scanning.
Additional scanning services, unique to each location are available as follows:
ITC-Dynamics
- There is a form to be completed when leaving bubble sheets for scanning. A copy of the form can be found downloaded here .
- The bubble sheets will usually be scanned within one business day of drop-off.
- The sheets can be scanned or scanned and scored. If you wish to have sheets scanned and scored, the first bubble sheet must be the answer key and must have either the Social Security Number (STUDENT ID/SOC. SEC. NO.) or INSTRUCTOR or TEST NO. field bubbled in with all zeros. All subsequent bubble sheets must have the same field as the answer key bubbled with unique numbers (either the SSN or Instructor/Test Number field).
- Each question on the answer key can only have one answer bubbled. There is a place on the Scanning form that will allow for more than one correct answer in scoring.
- Depending on which option you choose, will determine what data will be returned. For scanning only, you have the choice of a raw data file (.dat)EXAMPLE or a formatted file (.ans)EXAMPLE that can be run through the TS scoring program. For scanning and scoring, you can get either one of the scanned files (.dat or .ans) as well as a results file, has scoring criteria (SSN or Test Number) and grade. That is what we call the (.txt)EXAMPLE file. This file is what can be used to upload to your Toolkit class page. There is also a test analysis report that gives you important information regarding the test itself.(.prn)EXAMPLE
- The results of the scanning/scoring can be sent to you as an email (either in the body of the message or as an attachment) or for scored sheets, a print out can be requested.
- Sheets/Results should be picked up at the location where they were dropped off. We don't Messenger Mail scanned sheets nor do we accept bubble sheets via Messenger Mail. These have to be hand dropped off and picked up.
- For any special test scanning requests other than the UVa Blue Sheets, you will need to contact the Help Desk for further information.
ITC-Carruthers
At ITC-Carruthers, the scanned data can be printed out- ready for pick-up or returned to you via e-mail.
