Email and Calendar

Both UVa email and calendaring services can be accessed from anywhere. For faculty and staff:

For students, your email communications package (which includes calendaring and much more) is provided by one of UVa’s contracted private email vendors.

Online File Storage

Your may want to store a backup copy of your important files online. UVa provides two services for file backups: Home Directory Service and UVaCollab.

Some resources are restricted to on-Grounds use only, or if off-Grounds, may be accessed by using one of the following methods.

UVaAnywhere through Cisco VPN (Virtual Private Network) accessing restricted resources (e.g., departmental servers, Home Directory, or other University restricted resources) by making your computer seem to have a University IP address install software and personal digital certificate computer administrative privileges

Secure Terminal and File Transfer Options

Use the Secure Shell Protocol (SSH), a software standard to support encrypted data transfer between two computers. It can be used to support secure logins, file transfers, or general purpose connects. Servers maintained by ITC require SSH-based connections in most cases.
