Transitioning from Toolkit to UVaCollab

Overview

Sakai, an open-source online collaboration and learning environment running at UVa as UVaCollab, has been selected to replace the Instructional Toolkit as U.Va.’s new course management system.

Transition Timeline
Spring 2008
  • UVaCollab goes to production for course sites (for early adopters) including integration with ISIS class roster data
  • Begin faculty transition from Instructional Toolkit to UVaCollab for courses
Summer 2008 through Spring 2009
  • All instructors need to transition from Instructional Toolkit to UVaCollab for courses
  • Ongoing upgrades and integration of features and capabilities
  • Work begins to integrate with PeopleSoft
Summer 2009
  • Instructional Toolkit is “retired” to read-only mode
  • UVaCollab is in full production for courses and integrated with PeopleSoft

Planned Integration of Other Existing Services into UVaCollab

  • In the near future, library scanning requests will also transfer scanned materials into your My Workspace Resources in UVaCollab.
  • Official student photos will be made available this semester (spring 2008). Composite photos are only available in Toolkit at this time.
  • Final grade submissions and course evaluations will continue to be handled through Toolkit until the new student system comes online.
